Cerebral Palsy CORNELL UNIVERSITY STUDYOur study was designed as a randomized, delayed entry trial of the effects of HBOT on children ages 1 to 5 years with moderate to severe CP. Enrollment criteria were 1) age between 1 and 5 years; 2) moderate to severe CP; 3) no evidence of brain malformation; 4) developmental delay of at least 33% in one area; 5) no active seizures for the previous 6 months. Treatment of Neurologically Impaired Adults and Children with mHBOTThe senior author has a special interest in toxic encephalopathy and documented its features in a number of publications. Hyperbaric Medicine and Brain Injured ChildrenHyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) involves the delivery of oxygen in a pressurized enviroment created by a chamber. The pressure serves to saturate the tissues of the body, not only the hemoglobin in the blood, but the plasma, lymph and cerebral spinal fluid, all of which go many places that hemoglobin cannot reach. The Second Wave of OxygenWhat do hockey coaches have in common with Parkinson’s sufferers? What could an Irish Olympic athlete possibly share with a patient bedridden from chronic Lyme disease? Oxygen. The elixir of life. The one substance every cell in your body needs to function—whether it’s to heal chronic illness or perfect your 4-minute mile. Cerebal PalsyMore than 500,000 Americans have Cerebral Palsy (CP) with more than 4,500 new cases diagnosed each year. To say ‘cerebral palsy’ is not a diagnosis, but more a descriptive of chronic disorders, which impair the control of movement.
